About Me

Professional Biography

In 1999 I started my own entertainment business and found that I could not afford to pay any professionals to do what I needed to have done.  I had to do it myself.  I had to figure out how to build a website, record audio, edit in Photoshop and take professional photos all on a tight budget.  Now here I am, almost two decades later, and it is my goal to provide digital media and entertainment services at a price people, like me, can afford.  All the services I offer are very symbiotic in nature, and I learned these skills because I needed them to get my business off the ground.  Now, I look forward to helping you as well as your budget.

Since 2002 I have been an elementary school teacher with the Waterloo Region District School Board.  I graduated from Sir Wilfrid Laurier with a degree in music education and completed my Bachelors of Education at the University of Western Ontario.  I have completed my Music Specialist qualification from Queens and I have several Conestoga College photography courses under my belt. I also  teach a night school photography course. I am kept busy at home in Kitchener with my young son Hawksley and the constant mess of gear is tolerated by my lovely wife Laura.

From small private weddings to massive cooperate events I have experience with it all!

Offering photography and DJ services together was something I knew I could do but I was unsure if couples would like the idea, but it has turned out to be my most popular service, by far!

 

As your DJ AND photographer you cut down your meetings and I get to know you better, which allows me to cater and predict your needs.  Instead of being idle while a song plays, I use that time to continue to shoot photos of your event all night long! All of my DJ equipment is set up and ready to go before I start shooting so that everything runs smoothly for the day.

 

As a DJ I work with you to make sure I play what you and your guests want to hear.  I strive to understand how I can best add to your event and knowing your musical tastes gives me lots of insight into your personalities.  It is hard to please every crowd member, but I do my best to play a wide variety of music while reading your guests to see what they best respond to and I always do my best to play any request that I get. I have a very powerful sound system, but I realise that we are at a wedding and not a club.

 

Ultimately, I have no ego when it comes to providing photography and DJ services. My experience helps me to make what I think are the best choices for the day but in the end, you are the one who knows best how your big day should go!

Frequently Asked Questions

How can you possibly do both photo and dj services?

I am naturally a multitasker in all aspects of my life. If I'm not doing three things at once I'm bored! The responsibilities of a photographer drop off drastically after the formal photos are done. This allows me to also provide the music. While a song is playing I can go out into the crowd and snap pictures. My camera equipment sits beside me, ready to go, right until the end of the night. I also utilize remotes to control my playlist and my lights if the need be. I have done well over 50 weddings as the photographer and dj and I am yet to have a disappointed client!

 

When should I book your services?

I always recommend booking ASAP. There is never any pressure but I do not consider a date closed until I have a deposit.

 

How much of a deposit is required?

I always prefer about ¼ of the package value to confirm your booking. However, I am flexible with deposits to help suit your finances. All deposits are non-refundable.

 

When is the final payment due?

Final payment is due the day of the wedding in the form of cash or cheque (made out to Cameron Shaver). You are welcome to pay the final balance at any time once the final contract is drawn up.

 

How many pictures will I get?

There is no upper or lower limit for the number of pictures that you will get. On average , depending on how many locations we use, I deliver between 800 to 1100 pictures. You get every great picture that I take! Defining a set limit on the pictures I deliver is silly. I never know how may pics I will take and why would I eliminate a good picture simply because I hit an arbitrary cap?

 

Do you offer any print packages?

I could offer print packages, or you could do it cheaper yourself! If you don't want to be bothered I can do the printing for you but I am a huge advocate of clients doing things for themselves and saving big bucks in the process!

 

Are you insured?

Yes! I have plenty of insurance so that everyone is covered in any unfortunate circumstance.

 

How long will it take to get my pictures?

First, it depends on the time of year or how late in the season your wedding is. I average approximately 90 days for a turn around but I write 120 days into the contract just to be sure.

 

How much experience do you have?

I started as a professional photographer and dj in 2007 and since that time I have been booked hundreds of times from huge corporate events to small private weddings. I have encountered almost every possible venue, setup and hiccup possible and I have experience dealing with all of them.
